Types of Massages Offered

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage seeks to obtain a therapeutic benefit. While therapeutic massage is often relaxing, the end goal of the session or series of meetings is not relaxation.

Therapeutic goals can vary considerably between massage therapists and clients. In some cases, a health professional recommends massage. For example, someone attending physiotherapy for an injury might have a regular therapeutic massage to loosen muscles, improve muscle tone, and increase their flexibility. Likewise, therapeutic massage can be used to supplement wound care, cancer care, and a variety of other treatments.

People can use therapeutic massage as a standalone treatment. Some people, such as athletes, laborers or stressed out even office workers, receive regular therapeutic massage to keep themselves in good physical condition.

People of all ages can benefit from therapeutic massage when it performed by a competent and fully qualified remedial massage therapist. Massage is also suitable for people with disabilities, expecting mothers, and individuals in treatment for medical conditions, although some special precautions may need to be taken to protect the health of the client.

Basic therapeutic massage techniques derived from a variety of massage styles. Your massage therapist will tailor your massage techniques depending on your needs.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release

A form of soft tissue manipulation to decrease pain and restriction of motion, which involves relaxing contracted muscles, increasing circulation and lymphatic drainage, and stimulating the stretch reflex of muscles and overlying fascia.

People with pain from overuse, trauma, infectious agents, or inactivity, often respond well to this type of therapy. Myofascial release helps decrease the thickening of connective tissue and the resultant irritation and reflexive muscle tension.

Direct myofascial release (or deep tissue work) method works through engaging the myofascial tissue restrictive barrier; the tissue is loaded with a constant force until mass release occurs. Indirect release, on the other hand, involves a gentle stretch, with only a few grams of pressure, which allows the fascia to ‘unwind’ itself. The dysfunctional tissues are guided along the path of least resistance until free movement achieved.

Ashiatzu Oriental Bar Therapy

Ashiatzu

What is Ashiatsu Bar Therapy?

Ashiatsu means “foot pressure” in Japanese. Barefoot massage also has many other names depending on its country of origin. A fusion of several traditional forms of barefoot massage adapted to North American standards has been created and continues to evolve.

Ashiatzu2

Ashiatsu is a type of massage therapy in which the practitioner balances themselves using parallel bars mounted above the table and massages the patient with her feet.

Strokes are compressive, broad, consistent and flowing; giving the sensation of being massaged by huge hands. Using the feet enables the therapist to deliver varying therapeutic levels of pressure, leaving tissues feeling invigorated, yet deeply relaxed. Excellent for deep tissue work.

Ashiatsu may have the following benefits:

  • Stress reduction & relaxation – likely the most relaxing massage you’ll ever experience, while still being incredibly therapeutic
  • Reducing tension & contracture of muscles & releasing knots – minimizes damage to healthy tissue which helps to reduce soreness that often follows a deep tissue massage
  • Alleviating pain in both acute & chronic conditions – able to access problem areas & achieve releases that are harder to address with hands
  • Improving circulation of blood & lymph – you’ll leave feeling invigorated & rejuvenated while relaxed at the same time
  • Increasing overall health and well-being – Ashiatsu benefits mental health just as much as the physical body- leave feeling like you’ve just done a great yoga class or gone to the spa
